The pattern
I'm most useful at the border between fields.
My value isn't being the world's foremost specialist in each field. It's that I can enter one as an outsider, learn enough of the underlying system to be productive, and carry ideas between fields that don't normally talk to each other. Pick a thread to see the same four steps play out.

The Splice of Life: Aging, RNA, and Caloric Restriction
My dissertation: alternative splicing and intron retention as mechanisms of gene-expression control in response to caloric restriction.

Caloric restriction drives age-dependent and integrated remodeling of RNA processing and lipid composition in mouse brain
- Transcripts CR changes gene expression in much the same way at 10, 20, and 30 months of age.
- Splicing Alternative-splicing changes are largely unique to each age, suggesting context-specific regulation.
- Lipids At every age, CR shifts cortical lipids in the same direction: toward more unsaturation.
- Integration Multi-omic integration links specific lipid classes to transcripts and splicing events.
First author: I co-designed the study, ran all of the data analyses, and co-wrote the manuscript.
